Thriasio Pedio Complex (Phase B)

Description

The project concerns the construction of a modern complex at Thriasio Pedio, which will bring together the railway and freight activities currently carried out at facilities scattered across the capital. Relocating these facilities to a single site outside the built-up area of Athens will bring significant environmental and spatial planning benefits for the entire Athens conurbation. The Complex in question will include: a marshalling yard, a container terminal, a customs office, a freight station, goods warehouses, a group of sidings for stabling wagons carrying dangerous goods, washing plants and all the facilities necessary to serve the above activities. Technical characteristics: Buildings: construction of buildings within the Thriasio Complex (staff, central administration & control, repair and maintenance workshops, etc.) Superstructure: ballasted track with continuous welded rail, 12.3 km in length, and slab track (embedded rail) Signalling: 158 point machines over 55 km of track layout Electrification: 33 km of overhead contact line The physical scope of the works for the construction of the above Complex was implemented in 2 construction phases: Operational Phase A and Operational Phase B. OPERATIONAL PHASE B Operational Phase B followed on from Operational Phase A and comprised the laying of the superstructure of the remaining railway tracks within the Complex (that is, other than those carried out under Operational Phase A), the construction of building works, signalling and remote control, electrification of the tracks (of both Operational Phase A and Operational Phase B) within the Complex, the remaining sewerage and rainwater drainage works, and E/M installation works. Relocating these facilities to a single site outside the built-up area of Athens will bring significant environmental and spatial planning benefits for the entire Athens conurbation.
