Agios Stefanos Tunnel

Description

The project concerns the complete reconstruction of the Agios Stefanos tunnel in Attica, restoring traffic on the right-hand (up) track of the Athens – Thessaloniki line. The project comprises the complete reconstruction of the old tunnel, with an enlarged cross-section to allow electrification and an increase in freight traffic (through the use of larger loading gauges), as well as the laying of the track with materials meeting the latest specifications for maximum speeds. Technical characteristics: Length of section: 170 m of single track Design speed: 80 km/h Cut & Cover: 62.50 m in length The project contributes to the restoration and smooth operation of railway traffic, with the aim of doubling the capacity of the line and thereby serving greater transport volumes.
