A special railway service to Kalamata

Hellenic Railways responded positively to the request of the Greek-Swiss Initiative and completed the necessary clearing and track preparation works for the safe passage of a train on the Asprochoma – Kalamata section, in order to make possible the special service scheduled for Sunday 7 June 2026.

Operating the train on this particular section is a symbolic but especially significant initiative, which highlights the enduring value of the railway for local communities and regional development.

Hellenic Railways remains committed to the objective of gradually upgrading and making use of the country's railway network, exploring every possibility that may contribute to bringing sections of the network back into operation, always with safety and service to citizens as the guiding principle.

Today's initiative highlights the enduring value of the railway and the strong interest that continues to exist in making use of and developing the network.

The Chief Executive Officer of Hellenic Railways, Christos Palios, stated:
