Regarding press reports on the railway network in Drama

Hellenic Railways S.A. (OSE), further to recent press reports and party announcements concerning the new organisational model and the operation of the railway network in Drama, clarifies that these reports do not correspond to reality, as they are based on an erroneous and fragmentary interpretation of a draft organisational chart, which has been sent to employees solely in the context of internal consultation and neither concerns nor affects the regulation or management of railway traffic, nor the operation of the railway network or of the railway stations.

First of all, there is no question of abolishing the maintenance of the railway network in Drama, nor is Drama railway station closing. The maintenance of the infrastructure in the wider region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is continuing normally and, by the end of 2026, an application for European funding will be submitted for the overall upgrading of the entire railway network of Macedonia and Thrace.

The provision for the establishment of Regional Centres concerns an organisational consolidation of a purely operational nature and does not abolish posts; it simply incorporates them into unified structures. The Regional Centres operate as coordination units at the level of a geographical area and include local crews with more than one base within their area of responsibility, so as to ensure an immediate technical response.

Under the new plan, Drama will belong to the Alexandroupoli Regional Centre as regards maintenance and traffic regulation, while the Thessaloniki Centre will also operate in a supporting role. In practice, this means that both the station masters and the maintenance crews belong organisationally to these structures, without their role in Drama being abolished.

In any event, our aim is the overall upgrading of the network in Northern Greece with modern infrastructure capable of supporting frequent services based on the needs both of Drama and of the other cities.
