ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING THE PATRAS NETWORK

The Chief Executive Officer of OSE, Mr Panagiotis G. Terezakis, is travelling to Achaia in order to inspect the situation in person and to issue the appropriate instructions for resolving the problems caused to the railway network by the major fire as soon as possible. By order of the Fire Service, owing to the fire in the wider area of Patras and in close proximity to a section of the railway line, traffic on the Vrachneika–Kaminia section has been suspended until further notice. Accordingly, the Patras Suburban Railway trains operating on the Agios Andreas–Kaminia section will terminate temporarily at Vrachneika station until traffic is restored. Traffic is temporarily operating between Kiato station and Akrata station, while the systems of the Trapeza and Platanos tunnels are out of operation. The contractor's crews responsible for maintenance are already in the area with a view to repairing the faults immediately. It is estimated that the operation of the network will be fully restored within the day. The response of OSE, as Infrastructure Manager, was immediate and in line with the zero-tolerance framework adopted for matters relating to the safety of rail travel.
